THE WAKING UP

Our elders told us that we got independence in 1947. May be It was just a transfer of power from the foreign suppressers to the self suppressers. Before independence, the great Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru sat on hunger strike to get their rights. After half a century, Irom Sharmila is on a hunger strike in Manipur, since a decade, but we are deaf not to hear her demands, blind not to see her fainted face and dumb never to raise a voice in support of her. Alas, many of us don’t even know her.
Again,  Anna Hazare sat on a hunger strike demanding action on the Lokpal Bill to evade corruption. Jantar Mantar, the temple of protests in Delhi, which is always in the eyes of media, got him the huge public support.  But what about Irom Sharmila whose silent protest dies down in the neglection of media in north-east.
Is it only media that is left to bring injustice to light and with public support, justice is done; as in case of  Jessica Lal, Priyadarshini Mattoo, which are just a drop in the ocean. Where is our government which is chosen to fulfill our demands? Where is the world’s largest constitution which is unable to bring justice to anyone? It has become a toothless tiger that can do no harm to the culprits. The regular corruption stories that welcome us with the morning news are the only visible achievements achieved by our politicians. Are we really developing? Many of us are in doubt.
Will I would also have to go on a hunger strike to demand something? Is this the new trend? Are we back in the freedom struggle days to practice such a trend? Will now the media will decide whom to support? Where will the unheard voices go?
Until a more viable format comes up in this country to correct the wrong things, stand up to support everyone who is fighting for justice, for anyone.
Jai janta janaardan!
